Iba Ajie- The Ukpabi and Chinyere Asika Resource Centre is conceived primarily as a resource centre focused on it’s core deliverables and named in the honour of Ajie and Dibueze Asika. Set in the formal seat or palace of Ajie Asika, as prescribed for his membership of the Ndichie Ume (the High Council of Chiefs) of Onitsha. It is also by traditional prescription, his sacred burial site.
The centre seeks to honour their memory by celebrating the themes that epitomised their personal philosophies and life’s work. These being Heritage, Culture/Cultural Aesthetics, Intellectualism/Education, Governance, Technology and Art. All of these platforms were, in their view, deeply intertwined and the centre aims to promote these themes, both from aesthetic and functional standpoints.
The centre is operated under the corporate vehicle Iba Ajie (Company Limited By Guarantee), which is registered under Part B of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990, as a Social Enterprise. Its main object being the promotion of Indigenous Innovation, Technology, Culture, Media, Art, Literature, History, Language, within the Nigerian and larger African landscape. It is a non-political, non-profit entity, fully compliant with the Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
